Celebating 24 Years of UNESCO Heritage: The Festa del Palmerar d’Elx

After 24 years of being recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Palmeral of Elche is gearing up for its third Festa del Palmerar, a colorful event that celebrates the unique culture and heritage surrounding this iconic palm grove. Organized by APELX, AV Raval, and VOLEM PALMERAR, along with over thirty local entities and businesses, this festival promises to be an engaging and enjoyable experience for all.

Taking place at the newly inaugurated Casa-Museo in Hort dels Pontos on Saturday, November 30th, the celebration will feature a myriad of activities focused primarily on the palm tree and its significance. Highlights of the event will include:

• IX International Palm Climbing Championship: A thrilling contest showcasing the skills of climbers.
• Workshops and Competitions: Engage in various artistic and traditional activities.
• Children’s Art Contest: Young participants will showcase their creativity through painting.
• Giant Games: Brand new this year, activities like Jocs de Fusta promise fun for the entire family.
• Cultural Exhibitions: Includes the Muixeranga d’Elx performance and displays of artisan crafts made from natural fibers.

In a bid to incorporate education into the festivities, local schools including IES La Asunción, Pedro Ibarra, and Sixto Marco will also participate, providing students with a unique opportunity to connect with their cultural roots.

Exhibit and Awards

A photographic contest titled “Luces y Sombras del Palmeral” will feature a selection of exhibits displayed at the Casa-Museo. The exhibition opening coincides with the festival and will run until December 14th, after which it will travel throughout the municipality and province.

Additionally, the Rapid Painting Contest will showcase awarded artworks, with an inaugural ceremony scheduled for December 14. Thanks to the generous sponsorship of TORK, a company committed to environmental sustainability, a total of €2,000 in prizes will be awarded.
