The 61st Travesía Cabo Roig Memorial Fernando Pedrera: OZU 2 Emerges Victorious
On August 15, 2025, the coastal waters of Torrevieja came alive with intense sailing action as the 61st edition of the Travesía Cabo Roig Memorial Fernando Pedrera unfolded. The event saw a competitive fleet of 49 boats, embracing a diverse range of classes, battle for supremacy in what has become one of the area’s most anticipated regattas. Adding another layer of excitement, the 11th Copa astoria was also contested during the event.
Race Day Conditions and Course Adjustments
The day was marked by fluctuating wind conditions, posing a notable challenge to race organizers and sailors alike. Initially scheduled for a 12:00 PM start, the race was postponed to 1:00 PM due to negligible wind persistent in the early hours. Temperatures soared under intense heat, adding physical strain to the already demanding race conditions.
To cope with the light breeze, race officials shortened the course while preserving key tactical elements, such as sailing close-hauled and downwind legs for the ORC classes. the revised route saw ORC boats covering 11 nautical miles, while boats in Divisions 2 and SB3 sailed 9.8 nautical miles directly towards Cabo Roig without the originally planned outer marker.
Standout Performances Across Classes
The regatta featured a spectacular start with leading ORC boats clustered near the front, demonstrating skill and strategy over power. Despite wind speeds hovering around 7 knots, increasing slightly to 8 knots near Cabo roig, competitors stayed engaged and competitive.
