Torrevieja Launches New academic Year with Over 14,000 Students and exciting Projects
This September 8,2025,Torrevieja’s education system will welcome 14,488 students across all educational stages,from Infant and Primary levels to Secondary,bachillerato,and vocational training. Ricardo Recuero, the city’s Education Councilor, revealed these figures today, marking the start of what promises to be a dynamic and transformative school year for the coastal city.

rising Enrollment and Staffing
Between July and August, a surge of new enrolments was recorded with 457 additional Primary students and 248 Secondary students joining ahead of the academic year.
To support this student body, approximately 1,500 teachers will be starting the new school term, ensuring favorable teacher-to-student ratios and quality education.

Infrastructure investments: Modernizing Torrevieja’s Schools
Torrevieja is set to undertake important infrastructure improvements this school year:
- IES Las Lagunas: The upcoming city council meeting on September 9 will approve the delegation of competencies for a €9 million complete remodel funded by the regional Education Ministry.
- CEIP Virgen del Carmen: Rehabilitation and refurbishment plans are currently awaiting approval.
- CEIP nº16: Prefabricated classrooms will become operational in January 2026 to accommodate demand.

- El Tiempo en el Cole: In partnership with Proyecto Mastral, this programme offers lessons and activities related to meteorology, astronomy, and sustainability, including nighttime sky observations.
