Torrevieja Opens Second Urgent Care Center to Meet Growing healthcare Demand
The health authorities of the Valencian Community have announced a major enhancement in urgent medical care in Torrevieja. Starting the first week of August 2025, the coastal city will have a second Punto de Atención Continuada (PAC), or Continuous Care Point, adding notable capacity to serve residents and visitors alike during non-regular healthcare hours.
Why a Second PAC is Needed
Until now,Torrevieja’s urgent care needs have been served by a single PAC located at the La Loma health center. With five health centers in the area-La Loma, Acequión, La Mata, Patricio Pérez, and San Luis-the population growth in recent years has put strain on the medical services. The existing PAC at La Loma currently attends an average of 230 patients daily, with peak times reaching up to 340 patients, sometimes overwhelming resources and increasing wait times.
recognizing this challenge, the Conselleria de Sanidad has allocated resources to establish a new PAC within the Acequión health center, strategically redistributing urgent care workload more equitably throughout the city.
Operating Hours and services of the new PAC
| Day | Operating Hours | Location |
|---|---|---|
| Monday to Friday | 3:00 PM – 8:00 AM (next day) | El Acequión Health Center |
| Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays | 24 hours | El Acequión Health Center |
This schedule ensures continuous coverage during hours when primary care centers usually close, providing urgent medical attention for non-life-threatening cases outside hospital emergency rooms.
Benefits of Expanding Urgent Care in Torrevieja
- Reduced congestion: The new PAC will relieve pressure on hospital emergency departments and the La Loma PAC, reducing wait times and improving patient experience.
- improved response times: More centers mean quicker access to urgent care for all neighborhoods.
- Better resource management: By dividing patient flow, the healthcare system can operate more efficiently and effectively.
- Adaptation to population growth: As Torrevieja’s population increases, these services scale up to meet evolving medical needs.
- Equitable healthcare access: The zoned approach to urgent care coverage means all citizens receive timely treatment within their area.
looking Ahead
This healthcare expansion represents a significant step towards enhancing public health infrastructure in Torrevieja and improving the quality of life in the region. By offering urgent care closer to home and during extended hours, city officials expect better healthcare outcomes and heightened patient satisfaction.
Residents are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the locations and schedules of the two PACs to make the best use of available medical services.
